Purses with a Purpose
Outreach Program
In June 2019, Fresh Beginnings Safe House successfully launched our PURSES WITH A PURPOSE outreach initiative. To date we have given out close to nine hundred handbags full of care package items and other resources to survivors of human trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation in the St. Louis community. This initiative has also allowed us to assist many women in getting out of their human trafficking situation to receive safe trauma informed services.

The initiative was created to do the following:
RELATIONSHIPS
Help foster trusting relationships with victims who are actively in the life of human trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation.
MEET NEEDS
Help meet basic needs by providing hygiene products, food, and water.
PROVIDE
Provide coats, jackets, scarves, and gloves during cold weather.
NARCAN KITS
Focus on harm reduction by providing NARCAN kits and safe sex kits.
HOTLINE NUMBER
Distribute our hotline number to victims so they can call to access resources,
assistance with placement in a safe home or detox center, and to just talk if needed.
Why is our outreach program needed?
OUTREACH
… is the first opportunity to build a rapport and assess for safety with a client.
OUTREACH
… allows us as a service provider to utilize tailored and trauma-informed outreach strategies to connect with under-supported groups who are experiencing human trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation.
OUTREACH
… allows us to provide access to resources that a client may not have such as feminine hygiene products and other necessities.
OUTREACH
… allows us to meet a client where they are and assist them with options on how they can eventually leave the life of exploitation they are currently in.
Who conducts outreach?
Our outreach program consists of a team of individuals who have been thoroughly trained and vetted to work with victims of trauma and exploitation. Our team is a consistent set of individuals which enables our team to build trust and rapport with clients. Consistency and trust are important components of building relationships with the individuals we serve.
Help us help her
How can you help with our outreach program?
You can put together care packages that include items such as: feminine hygiene products, soap, toothbrush/toothpaste, shampoo/conditioner, wipes, socks, wash clothes/loofas, lotions, deodorant, lip balm, and non-perishable snacks and food items. Any of these items we will accept as donations.
You can donate gently used medium to large sized purses, which hold our care package items for delivery to clients.
